Bore Abandonment/Rehabilitation
The main purposes for abandoning bores is to block access pathways into the bores that may exist from surface contamination, groundwater migration or as dangerous voids/traps.
The process involves using a sonic device which shoots projectiles that penetrate and blast holes through the casing. Then a high velocity detonating chord creates a radial force rips and busts the seams and joints enlarging the holes created by the projectiles.
The grout/cement, added after emplacement of the device, which is twice the weight of water sits above the charge and stems the blast (absorbs the upward blast and pushes the blast sideways through the casing).
The compression shockwave pushes sealing material out into the formation and thrust through the shattered casing out into any voids, cavities, and gravel that surrounds the bor .to ensure a proper seal.
